A Making Movies Production The Fencer as the Opening Gala film at prestigious Palm Springs Film Festival was great success.
“The festival launched with a bifurcated Opening Night Gala for the first time because of construction on the Palm Springs High School auditorium. The sold-out screenings of the Finnish film, “The Fencer,” drew lines more than 30 minutes before the 6 p.m. show time at the Camelot Theatres while the opening at the Annenberg Theater, reserved largely for VIPs and major donors, wound up with some empty seats.”
“The screening of ‘The Fencer’ was attended by its producer, Kai Nordberg, and director, Klaus Haro, who said they were honored to have their film screened on opening night.
‘Palm Springs has a great reputation in Europe nowadays,’ said Nordberg. ‘It is highly regarded. So for us, it’s a major thing and it’s been all over the news in Finland. This festival has grown bigger and bigger and the importance is greater now.'”
“Screenings continue from 9:30 a.m. Saturday through Jan. 11 at venues throughout Palm Springs and Cathedral City. The sold-out Saturday Awards Gala, featuring celebrity honorees such as Johnny Depp, Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon and Brie Larson, begins with red carpet arrivals at the Palm Springs Convention Center in the late afternoon.”
